i want to go
"I am very excited, because I'm involved, to announce the School of Visual Arts' first Master's Workshop in Design History, Theory and Practice in Rome and Venice: a two-week program studying in the birthplace of Western typographic tradition. Our first week will be spent in Venice (May 24-30); the second in Rome (June 1-6).
The program features American and Italian Faculty (check here for details), including Louise Fili, Lita Talarico, myself, Christina Chiappini, Omar Vulpinari, Carlo Branzaglia, Giorgio Camuffo, James Clough, and Carlo Martino. There will be classes about type and Italian history, type and food, and Italian-style publishing, as well as day trips and lectures to Fabrica and Typoteca, the Trajan Column, Pantheon, and Arch of Titus, and more.
Although rooted in graphic design, it will include multidisciplinary activities, with the goal of producing projects and products for publication and production. Classes will be held at the Palazzo Mangilli-Valmarana on the Grand Canal (below) in Venice and at Sapienza University of Rome, Piazza Fontanella Borghese.
Limited number of students accepted. Students must be current seniors, graduate students, or design professionals."

Holly-you should def. consider this opportunity. I am leaving to study in Rome in 3 weeks. Maybe our time would overlap! But...I wanted to share with you that we are currently working with a lady in seminar who is from Rome. She is a Architectural historian and knows a lot about typography and the significance of inscriptions that survive on the buildings today. Anyway if you have any specific questions or thoughts about the precedent in this program, I can for sure ask her ?s you might have. Really interesting stuff though I have been doing a lot of research about the Pantheon inscription!! take care!!
oh my goodness i've been dreaming of italy (literally) so much lately - i miss it a lot and NEED to go back soon!
or....you could wait til next summer when I'm in France and we could hang out!!!
