handmade nation

i went to this screening on thursday night with shelby... i was in heaven! - Handmade Nation is a great documentary and a great book...there were some really cool ladies (and a few awesome guys, too!) featured in the film, and some of them were there, so it was really cool to get to see them in person. there was a panel discussion afterwards with faythe levine (the filmmaker herself), mandy greer (an amazing artist featured in the film), and kate bingaman-burt (the typographer for the book and movie - whose personality actually reminded me a lot of katie rhea...)

i was so excited to get to see the screening, and hearing the discussion was great - it was very cool to see that some of these people are able to make their living completely off their craft. but it was even cooler (and probably more realistic) to see that a lot of them still hold their "bread and butter", benefits-providing jobs and yet are still able to make time to make and sell their amazing goods.

p.s. - i think my favorite artist (although SO hard to choose one) was Nikki McClure... seeing her process was really cool - her calendar will be on my list to buy for 2010 for sure!
