diy headband

i am a sucker for any blog posting including diy instructions for something cute.... i am trying to keep all of the good ones i see in a favorites folder so one day, when i have all the time in the world i can have a diy-cuteness marathon!

this one from heart of light is great - i think it's a lot like that headband from anthro that i spent way too much money on...

beautiful flower composition

i really love this image from the small stump. - i feel like there should be little pins with cute labels on each of the flowers....

luau at the frost's

a couple a weekends ago i helped plan a luau for the college group at church...we had it a the frost's beautiful home...i made pom pom tissue flowers and small drink umbrellas, i was working on a budget so making both of these things kept the party festive and the price down...i got the instructions off of martha stewart...i used a vintage sheet that i found at the thrift store for a dollar for the table cloth along with some scraps of burlap...the plates i found on the sale rack at a local party store, their colors set the palette for the luau...we had veggie and chicken kabobs and my mom's famous mango salsa, lemon lime punch and macadamia nut cookies for dessert

taschen's new york

perryn and i made a spur-of-the-moment stop at the strand this evening, just to browse around. i saw this book, taschen's new york, for a steal! - just $29... i've seen the paris version at anthropologie for a lot more, so i was sure to pick this up at such a good price.... and the best part is, i still had a little bit left on a gift card for the strand (thanks, mom & dad!), so i only paid $1.97 for this baby! - such a good feeling..

anyway, i haven't had much time to look through it all yet, but i think it may soon become one of my favorites... not only is it big and chunky and has a bright pink cover, but i love the illustrations... and especially the fact that the book has tabs! - the pages in each of the three main categories (hotels, restaurants, & shops) are all die-cut and tabbed... plus, they list some of my favorite places around the city. my one complaint is that they don't highlight very many spots in my neighborhood. oh well... i guess this will get me to explore outside of my own neighborhood!...

renegade fun...

where to start? ... there were so many fun booths at the renegade craft fair this weekend (actually, somewhere close to 300 in all!!)

i don't even know how to start going through all of the great artists i saw... i grabbed a ton of business cards, so i'll eventually get to posting about all of them.

one of my favorites, though, was Rifle design. Anna was there and so sweet and personable...

she had a bunch of stuff with her for her custom wedding suites, so it was a treat to be able to see it all in person. i think my favorite was this one - so cute... her invitations are so fresh and unique.

p.s. - the following is a conversation i overheard at nate duval's booth:

"hi, i'm __ - i just wanted to meet you. i follow you & your work on twitter."

"oh, yeah - we are twitter friends, aren't we? does it feel like we're breaking some sort of internet protocol or something? like, can we be friends online AND in real life? this feels a little weird."

gotta love it when handmade, diy craft-world meets the world of social media...

!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HOLLY!!!

hope you have a wonderful day!! - i hope you're not at work... but if you are i hope they celebrate you today!

p.s. - i found you a b'day present at renegade this weekend... i just need to find a way to mail it...

stillness is the move

so about a month ago when i went to the dark was the night show, i got to hear the dirty projectors perform with david byrne... the d.p.'s have a new album coming out next week, but you can go ahead and listen to the whole thing on npr's website right now.

i am especially loving this song, and i think you'll like it too, holly... (i'm not quite sure what the video is all about, but if anything you can click play and minimize, and just listen to the audio....)
